What should we wear?
I love giving styling advice! I am more than happy to help you choose outfits and accessories through text or email before your session. I would steer you away from matching outfits, and instead look for coordinated outfits in similar styles and color profiles. It can be tempting for dad to wear his red golf polo he wears everyday, but neutrals and natural materials always compliment skin tones better for gorgeous photos. Wondering about shoes? Barefoot is always a favorite for me, but if that isn't an option, something minimalistic and neutral (not big, dark or bulky) that won't be distracting is a great choice.
When you arrive:
Leave your apple watches, sunglasses and cell phones in the car. The watches are distracting in the photos, the phones print in our pockets and any messages you receive can distract you from enjoying the time with your family too.
I have babies or small children who don't sit still... will you be able to get good photos of them?
Photos of babies and kids are my absolute favorite! They couldn't take a bad photo if they tried. But as a mom, I know it can be a lot of pressure to get those photos... you did pay for them, after all! So here are some tips:
Never be afraid to feed or change your baby - we want everyone to be comfortable and have fun more than anything. It's never a bad idea to hand out a bottle, snack or nurse right before we start. But if we need to take another break mid-shoot for more food, that's fine with me! Fed kids = happy kids.
Don't be afraid to get wet or dirty, especially your kiddos. And don't be afraid to laugh along with them when they do! If you are working with young kids, it can be tempting to "parent" the whole session to try to get them to sit still or smile on cue, but make sure your face is relaxed and ready to go for any split second I get the kids smiling! Just genuinely enjoying the moment is the best way to achieve that. Look at it as a family date instead of something stressful!
And always remember: some of the most chaotic moments for us as parents create the most precious memories in photos.
How long does it take to receive the photos after the session and how will those be delivered?
My turnaround for a session is typically within a week, but can take around 2 weeks during busier seasons. Please let me know if you need photos sooner and I would be happy to prioritize. Your photos will be delivered via email as a digital download on Pixieset.
What if we want something you don't have listed as a package (weddings, birth, etc.)?
If I'm not offering it as a package, it's probably because I don't have much experience in that area yet! Since I am always looking for opportunities to grow, it might be a great opportunity for you to get a good deal.
Let's talk about your shoot!
We want to include our pet in our photos, is that ok?
Yes! As long as he or she is friendly and you give me notice. They are family, after all.
Are the travel expenses included in your packages or covered additionally?
The areas of Destin, Santa Rosa Beach, Panama City Beach and north up to Florala are included, but I will charge a travel fee outside that range. I also offer a discount for Defuniak Springs residents! Contact me for details.
